WHERE I STAND ON ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU

 EDUCATION
My daughters have all benefited from obtaining their education from the Arlington Independent School District. Rhonda and I have been very active in our daughter’s education and have frequently attended functions at our children's schools.

I have always been a strong advocate of education. I know how it has enhanced my life, but I have also put my own money into assisting others obtain their education. Several years ago, I convinced my college friends to help me set up a foundation to help other young adults get into college. In 2003, we established the Labor Day Education Foundation Inc., a 501 (c) 3, and have assisted several students with tuition costs. Recently, Ms. Hemisphere, Shauna Westfall, has joined our team and is helping to locate students in need.

The Texas Legislature plays a large part in our public schools. Millions of dollars are spent each year on education, but there are those who would take money away from public education. This depleting of public education funds is done in the form of school vouchers. Vouchers do nothing but take much needed money away from the public schools. The current incumbent of District 96 supports the depletion of funds from our schools by supporting school vouchers.

Please help me protect public school by voting for Lee Jackson on March 4, 2008.

CRIME
Clearly there is a need for law enforcement in our community – we live in a society of laws that are designed to protect us and enhance our lives. These laws are written for us in the Texas Legislature. I have been on the front lines of enforcing these laws for over two decades and I bring a realistic understanding of what effect the Texas Legislature can have on your daily life.

As a career law enforcement officer there is no subject that I am more familiar with than crime in our communities. I have seen first hand the effect crime has on our families, our neighborhoods, and our economy.

I want to make “Burglar Bars” that cover the windows of our neighborhood homes a thing of the past. Bars must be used to keep the criminals locked in jail, not to keep us locked in our homes. We should not be afraid to take an after dinner walk in our own communities. We should not fear to let our children play in the front yard.

The deterrent for crime is punishment. I support maximum penalties for criminals. I would support any law that strengthens our neighborhoods to keep my wife and daughters safe as well as every other person in this great state from any of those who would cause us harm.

IMMIGRATION
Immigration is a national problem that has a local effect. The US Constitution charges the Federal Government with securing our borders. It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to protect our borders and to administer Federal Immigration laws. Sadly, the Federal Government has not adequately guarded our boarders.

We are a country of laws and all immigrants who seek to become Americans should follow these laws. I have spent my entire adult life enforcing laws and will seek to have all immigration laws enforced. The security of our borders is essential to maintaining our national security.

EMINENT DOMAIN
Centuries ago people from across Europe settled in this country in search of fundamental freedoms. Among them was the right to own property and not live in fear that the king could confiscate their home and make it his own.

Current laws allow big businesses the opportunity to take your land to build a shopping center or development for their own profit. This is wrong. The Texas Legislature needs to pass legislation that would prohibit this, and I would strongly support such a law.

GUN CONTROL
The Second Amendment to our Constitution guarantees us the right to bear arms. As a Police Officer, I have seen security gained by individuals who are able and determined to defend themselves.

Predators prey upon those who can not defend themselves. The evil that stalks innocent people will turn away if they know their victim is armed. An armed society is a polite society.

We do not need more gun laws, we need more enforcement of the laws that already exist.
